Frequently Asked Questions

How do I contact TennCare?

Health insurance can be difficult. While you are welcome to apply on your own, you don't have to try to understand it all by yourself. The Social Services Director can help you apply, recertify, and remain in compliance for TennCare insurance. This is not a guarantee of acceptance but the staff at BCNH can help you navigate the process and explain the procedures necessary for beginning an application or recertification.

What happens to the money in a Resident Trust Fund?

If a Resident wishes, BCNH can keep their money in a Resident Trust Fund. This is an interest-bearing account that the Resident has access to, in order to make purchases such as outside food, items they would like to have (outside of what is provided by the facility), or items requested that are not covered by their health insurance. Account statements are provided in accordance with State and Federal regulations and information about their account is made available through the Business Office during regular office hours.

Can I take my loved one for outings? What about overnight stays?

Yes. Approved family/friends may take a Resident out into the community. Overnight stays are permitted for a total of 14 nights per calendar year. Please let your charge nurse know ahead of time about any plans to leave the facility, in order for the staff to prepare medications.

What should a new Resident bring when moving in?

At Bledsoe County Nursing Home, we want your loved one to be as comfortable as possible. While we understand this will be a transition for them, it is encouraged that you bring items to make them feel as close to home as possible. Things such as clothing, blankets, toiletry items, photos, house shoes or no-slip footwear, books and comfort items help to make this transition more pleasant. You may be able to bring a television, mini fridge, or even a chair from home as well. Please speak with the Admissions Coordinator/Social Services Director for more information on these or any other larger items.

Can I bring snacks for my loved one?

Yes. Outside food/snacks are permitted by the facility. We ask that you follow any doctor's orders regarding calorie restriction or sugar restrictions, for the safety and well-being of the Resident. Items will be dated and kept in accordance with policy, to ensure there is not risk of a Resident consuming foods that are outdated.

Can I bring personal medications, vitamins, or supplements?

No. Residents will receive orders from their doctor concerning all medications/vitamins/supplements. If you would like to discuss adding these items to your loved one's care plan, please speak with the MDS Coordinator, the Director Of Nursing  or the charge nurse to set up a meeting with their care team.

Can our family pet visit?

Yes. Family pets may visit the facility. We ask that all furry friends be on their best behaviors and have all vaccinations required by state law and be leashed for the safety and courtesy of other residents.

Will the Resident and family be involved in care planning?

Yes. We encourage the family and Resident to be a part of care planning, to address concerns, talk about improvements and plan our action steps in order to make sure our Residents receive the best possible individualized care.

Will the Resident have any privacy?

Yes. While rooms are semi-private, each resident room has a divider to provide privacy. Arrangements may be made with nursing staff and social services if Residents require additional accommodations for visits with spouses/large family groups or religious counseling upon request. Private rooms may become available upon occasion. Please ask the Admissions Coordinator for more information and pricing on private rooms.

If my loved one's condition deteriorates, can they be enrolled in Hospice services?

At Bledsoe County Nursing Home, we focus on what is best for the Resident. If you are interested in Hospice services or if your loved one's physician recommends Hospice care, the care team will work to have these services put in place, as appropriate. Please reach out to your charge nurse or the MDS Coordinator to speak about your options.
